Getting to King Island
Reaching King Island is part of the experience - and it’s closer than you might think. Just a 45-minute flight from Melbourne or mainland Tasmania and you’ll find yourself on a rugged island at the edge of the world, surrounded by wild coastline, rolling paddocks, and salt-laced air.

Once you land, it’s a 25-minute scenic drive to the Hut from the airport. Red Rock Hut is perched on the island’s remote west coast, overlooking the Southern Ocean. We’re about halfway up the island - between Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes golf courses - off-grid and peaceful, yet within easy reach of everything you need.
⛳ We’re perfectly positioned between two of the world’s top golf courses — Cape Wickham (30 min north) and Ocean Dunes (25 min south).
🏄 Porky’s Beach (great for surf and sunsets) is just 10 minutes away, and the legendary Martha Lavinia Beach is a 30-minute drive north.
🍴 The township of Currie is 25 minutes away — with the island’s main supermarket, restaurants, petrol station, and a few casual cafes. King Island Dairy (15 min) is a must for cheese lovers, and Wild Harvest restaurant in Grassy is about 35 minutes away
