Designed to tread lightly
Red Rock Hut was designed to sit lightly within its surroundings — entirely off-grid, powered by the sun and supplied by fresh spring water.
For us, sustainability is less about grand gestures and more about thoughtful choices — how the Hut operates, how we care for the land around it, and how we contribute to the island we call home.
A small footprint in a much bigger landscape
Off-grid, by design
100% off-grid.
You’d hardly notice.
Red Rock Hut runs entirely off-grid, with a solar and battery system capable of generating and storing enough power for three tiny homes. Fresh spring water from our nearby spring is treated on site through a dual-filtration and UV purification system.
But the experience doesn’t feel pared back. There’s a flushable toilet, excellent water pressure, air conditioning, fast Starlink Wi-Fi, a full kitchen, wood-fired hot tub and cedar sauna.

Powered by the sun
Solar generation and battery storage power the Hut entirely off-grid, with capacity designed to support three tiny homes.
Spring water, treated on site
Fresh water from our nearby spring is treated through a Puretec dual-filtration and UV purification system before reaching the Hut.
Thoughtful resource use
Recycling forms part of day-to-day operations, while the Hut’s off-grid systems encourage considered use of energy and water.
Comfort still comes first
Air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, excellent water pressure and the everyday comforts of home sit alongside a wood-fired hot tub and cedar sauna.
Caring for the coast
Looking after our corner of the island
The coastline surrounding Red Rock Hut is a large part of what makes staying here special. Caring for it is part of our responsibility as custodians of this property.
We are members and supporters of King Island Landcare and take an active role in caring for the land around the Hut, including coastal weed management and rehabilitation.
The aim is simple: to leave this small stretch of King Island in better condition than we found it.
Sharing the landscape
Wildlife is part of life here
Wallabies and birdlife move freely through the property, and seals are occasional visitors to the coastline below. Red Rock Hut sits within their landscape, not the other way around — something we try to remain conscious of in the way the property is managed.

King Island is a small community shaped by its landscape, farming, coast and people. Wherever possible, we work with island businesses, recommend local producers and experiences, and encourage our guests to discover the people and places that make the island what it is.
